How it works

Most of the industry has this backwards.

Marketing gets the budget. Structure does the work.

The house

Most companies invest in the party. And hope nobody asks about the floor plan.

Brand is the house.

Its shape, its size, the foundation.

Creative is how it's finished.

Siding, materials, what it feels like inside.

Marketing is the party in the backyard.

The part everyone wants to spend on.

Experience is the path from the front door to the party.

Can people find their way through?

People see the house before they ever come inside.

Most of them decide right here.

Can they even find the way in?

Your homepage is the front door.

Inside, the finish tells them what you're worth.

The look. The words. The proof on the walls.

This is where people get lost.

Nobody tells you. They just leave.

Here's where they turned back.

Most never made it to the party.

Finish the outside.

The first impression does its job.

Finish the inside.

Now the proof matches the promise.

Clear the path.

Now they can see where they're going.

Everyone made it to the party.

Same budget. A full table.

Guests still with you

Same party. Same budget.

Different house.

Fix the house first.

Then throw the party.

If people have to walk through a half-built house to get to a black tie dinner, they don't trust the dinner.

Four steps

Look. Position. Build. Launch.

You approve at every step. You can stop at any of them.

Step 1

Look.

I read how the business shows up today. You get a walkthrough of what I found.

What I need from youAn hour, and honesty about where you're headed.

Step 2

Position.

We settle what the business is, who it's for and why it matters. In your words, not mine.

What I need from youThe people who make decisions, in a room, twice.

Only what the look turned up. Step 3

Build.

Story, identity, website, materials. Whatever the look turned up, and nothing it didn't.

What I need from youQuick answers and one person who can say yes.

Step 4

Launch, then adjust.

It goes out. We watch what happens and fix what needs fixing.

What I need from youPatience for the first ninety days.

Who does the work

Me.

One senior person who finds the problem and then does the work.

When it needs a specialist, I bring in someone I've worked with for years. Motion, sound, video, development.

I still work with agencies. I just don't work at one.

What I won't do

Tell you to throw out everything you've built.

Not every company needs a rebrand. Sometimes it's a tighter story. Sometimes a cleaner site. Sometimes nothing yet. I'll tell you which.

And if anyone says they can do everything, run.

How I use AI

Every day. It gets me to the judgment sooner.

It speeds me up because I've spent twenty years knowing what I'm looking for. It doesn't replace the judgment.

How I use AI
I built it.Enid is how I take the first look at a company.
I run on it.The practice runs on it, every day.
I teach it.Coaches at Belmont, mortgage brokers, founders. Tools, not magic wands.
How work is scoped

After a first conversation.

The first look is part of the project. The project is scoped once we both know what's worth doing.

Do we need a rebrand or a refresh?

Usually less than you fear. I look first and tell you. Most of the time the bones are good and the story needs work.

What's the difference between brand and marketing?

Brand is what people believe about you. Marketing is how you reach them. Fix the first and the second gets cheaper.

What does a fractional Chief Brand Officer do?

Takes responsibility for how the business is seen, without you hiring a full-time executive. Some people call it fractional. I just call it the job.

What should a company fix before raising money?

Whatever an investor finds in the first ten minutes of looking. A clear answer to what you do and who it's for. Proof. A site that looks like a company worth backing.

What happens to the brand after an acquisition?

Someone has to decide. Keep both, fold one in, or build something new. Left alone, customers and staff make up their own answer.

Start with a 20‑minute call.

Tell me where the business is headed. I'll tell you what I'd look at first.
